Comprehensive Primary Care Initiative

Today, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Innovation Center announced that providers may now begin the process to apply for the Comprehensive Primary Care Initiative, a four year multi payer initiative aiming to strengthen primary care practices critical role in promoting health, improving care and reducing overall health care costs.

The CPCI if founded on a unique collaboration between Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurance plans and seeks to engage the participation of 75 high performing primary care practices in our state.

The CMS has entered into Memorandums of Understanding with the following payers in Arkansas: Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Arkansas Medicaid, Humana and QualChoice of Arkansas.

Under the CPCI, CMS will pay primary care practices a care management fee , initially set at $20 per beneficiary per month to support enhanced coordinated care. Participating commercial, state and other federal insurance plans are also offering enhanced payment to primary care practices that provide high quality primary care.

Comprehensive Primary Care Initiative Draws 116 appliations from Arkansas

 At the deadline date of July 20, 116 Arkansas Family Doctors made application with CMMS for the CPCI which was announced in early June!

Arkansas is one of seven markets selected to participate in the US along with Colorado, New Jersey, Oregon, New York’s capital district, Ohio and Kentucky’s Cincinnati Dayton region and the greater Tulsa, Oklahoma region.  The markets were selected based on a diverse pool of applicants from commercial health plans, state Medicaid agencies and self insured businesses who hoped to work alongside Medicare to support comprehensive primary care.

Up to 75 practices will be selected in each market area.  By Mid August, announcements of the practices selected will be made.  We appreciate all of the interest shown by our members and we extend good luck to each of you that applied!!
