Research Poster Contest
Get Ready to Showcase Your Research!
The Arkansas AFP is thrilled to announce the 2025 Poster Contest at our Annual Scientific Assembly. This exciting event is a premier opportunity for family medicine students and residents to highlight their scholarly work, gain recognition, and engage with practicing family physicians from across the state. Whether you’re presenting a practice-based research project, an evidence-based review, or a compelling case report, this is your opportunity to earn scholarly activity credit and network with your future peers.
Eligibility
- Open to all AAFP/ARAFP members.
- Applicants must be either:
- A medical student currently enrolled at an Arkansas College of Medicine, or
- A resident at an Arkansas Family Medicine Residency Program.
Poster Categories
- Original Research – Summarizes the results of a well-defined research project.
- Evidence-Based Review
- Case Review – Open to students only.

Thurs, Aug 14 and Fri, Aug 15 - Awards will be presented on Friday, August 15 during the Celebration Dinner and Awards Dinner at the Wyndham Hotel in North Little Rock. You do not have to be present to win.
Submission Requirements
- One entry per person as lead author.
- A maximum of two presenters per poster.
- All submissions must be of value and within the scope of family medicine.
- Faculty advisor IRB approval must be confirmed prior to submission.
- Posters previously presented at events such as:
- UAMS Research Symposium
- AMS Annual Meeting
…in the same calendar year may skip the abstract review process and proceed directly to registration.
- Concurrent submissions to national conferences such as AAFP FUTURE, STFM, or NAPCRG are encouraged and allowed.
- Participation in the contest does not require registration for the full Scientific Assembly.
- Projects previously presented at medical school or other academic events are also accepted.
Poster Display
- Up to 15 posters will be selected for display at the ARAFP Scientific Assembly.
- Mounting board and easel will be provided.
- Presenters are responsible for printing their own posters.
- Poster dimensions must not exceed 54” wide x 36” high (landscape orientation).
Review Process
- Each abstract is reviewed by a panel of family physicians.
- Posters skipping the abstract review (due to prior presentation) must still meet all other submission standards.
Evaluation Criteria
Posters will be evaluated based on:
- Clarity of the research and/or clinical question
- Originality of the project or question
- Relevance to family medicine
- Potential impact on future work
- Potential to improve patient care, or enhance resident knowledge, skills, and performance
- Presentation of new or innovative ideas
Awards
- Cash prizes will be awarded to top-scoring posters:
- 1st Place: $300
- 2nd Place: $200
- 3rd Place: $100
- The top 3 posters will be:
- Invited for publication in the Arkansas Family Physician Journal, and/or
- Featured on the ARAFP website
